Simply Put, Simply U

Simply Put, Simply U

Okay ladies….I think I’ve found it!!!!! I say think because I have now been using this shampoo for two months and it. is. WORKING!!!!!! As you know (per my confession) I have been having the most awful time with my scalp and have tried TONS of treatments and solutions….to NO avail. It has felt like throwing money down the drain! The no poo thing was working but I didn’t want to do it ALL the time. I wanted to use the baking soda/water as an occasional treatment more so than a permanent solution. I went to Walmart deTERMINED to find a shampoo sans Phosphates & Sulphates. deTERMINED I tell you!!! Well I found one and have been LOVING it =). I wanted, in the very beginning, to put it straight to the test! I knew that if I washed my hair with a normal shampoo, that my head would be itchy that same day! Not cool = (. Well, I used this shampoo and was fine that whole day. I decided, since it was a week of me not doing ANYthing I could keep going. Two days, Three days, FOUR days and my scalp was still fine! I couldn’t believe it, had I found the solution??? I then washed and decided to do so more frequently to see if that would make a difference. I washed every other day and it was STILL okay. Ladies, I say again….I THINK I FOUND IT!!!!! So far so good and THAT is enough for me right now….it’s more than enough actually =).
Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heeeaaaarrrrrt!!!!! =D It’s Christmas Eve. Can you feel it? Can you tell something special is coming? I remember as a kid, this night held such magic. We would not only read T’was the Night Before Christmas but we would read the even more wonderful story in Luke about our Savior being born in a manger in Bethlehem. We would sit by the lit Christmas tree with all other lights in the house off and feel the words my dad read. We knew they were true. I still do =). It was such a good transition to a peaceful sleep……but how could one SLEEP???

Enjoying yummy treats at Grandma & Grandpa’s

I was the only girl with three brothers so I always had my own room. I would sneak down the hall to where they were and we would stay awake all night playing games and guessing at what we would find in the morning. My parents always tacked up a sheet to hide our view if we ever walked past the hallway leading to the glowing Christmas tree. We would have Captain Crunch Berries EVERY year, my brothers chugged Egg Nog like it was going out of style while I sat in the corner gagging at the sight (I may have just gagged thinking of the smell). We would wake up and head down the street to Grandma & Grandpa’s for Christmas breakfast. I can hear the plates chinking, the smell of the bacon, their hugs, her glass Christmas tree candy jar filled with sweets all stuck together. Oh MEMORIES!!! Do we love traditions because they are so familiar? Because most of them are only practiced once a year so they are special? Because people we love teach us them? I think it is a sprinkling of all the above and I LoVe them!!!

Kev and I have been married for almost 10 years and haven’t lived by family for most of that time. We have loved coming up with our own little family traditions but have also brought our own from our separate families into the mix and have just loved the holidays that much more. This year we have been able to help others in ways we have always wanted to and are finally in a position to do so. We told our kids the plan of only one present from Mom and Dad, one from Santa and whatever grandparents or other family members might send. What we would have spent on Christmas has been split up between the Sub For Santa program, people in the neighborhood, acts of service (giving of our time), the United Way, food drives at school and helping lift others spirits in any way we can. The underneath of our tree may be bare but our hearts are SO full and I am SO proud of my boys (seeing as how they are younger) for being so great and excited about our Christmas this year.

My oldest (above) and I lay awake talking about Christmas and how it’s a little different this year. “Mom” he said, “Do you know what I like best about this Christmas?” “What Love?” “I loved taking those presents to all those families that wouldn’t have had a good Christmas. When they smiled and saw the bags we brought, that was my favorite present. I want to keep making people smile. Are we doing this again next year?” {insert heart MELTING right then!!!} “Yes, Kayson. We will do this as long as we have the means, and even when we don’t, we can always give our time and talents to those that need us.”
Speaking of talents…..lol…..bet ya didn’t think I could ROCK Mrs. Claus for our local high school did ya? Well, you’d be wrong!!! HA!

Is that not one of the funniest things ever? I know I would have to do a double take every time I passed the mirror =D. It was so much fun to read to little kids and pretend I was married to a waaaaaay older man with a lot of power ; D. I used a lot of Ben Nye makeup for this look and the NYX Jumbo Pencil in milk for my hairline and brows. This year held a lot of parties for our family too. One was Kev’s work party up in Salt Lake at Little America. I loooooove when the invite says formal & you can take it up a notch!

I opted for this bad boy from BeBe and did a deep red wine lip. Head didn’t seem complete without a loud obnoxious bow so I added one last minute and pearls from H&M.

I hope you have the merriest of Merry Christmases and are able to feel peace, love and joy this season. And if you have any room left over, try a bold lip with gorgeous lashes to top everything off =). Love you all!!!
P.S. Our family pictures were taken by the lovely Sara Simpson and I HIGHLY recommend her for your photos! She travels and is SO good with kids I can’t even tell you!!! Let me know if anyone would be interested in a giveaway from her!!!

Ipsy “Makeup”

Ipsy “Makeup”

Hello there =). So I made and edited this video before all the craziness of Halloween ensued so forgive the outdated comments =). Hope you enjoy! I really loved these Ipsy treasures and have used quite a few of them almost daily! The tinted lip balm that has a crazy handle actually comes with a brush…I later discovered lol. Hence the long handle =D. The neutral lipstick is also a daily treasure. What did you love?
Walkin In A Winter Berry Land

Walkin In A Winter Berry Land

There is nothing like a “berry” red lip for the cold winter blues. I myself love wearing all shades of red but do tend to gravitate toward bright with just a hint of darkening around the corners. I’m wearing just that today! MAC Russian Red with a hint of MACs Dark Side (any dark hue will do). Long before the whole ombre craze there was just plain contouring around the mouth and this lip embodies that. I used a red lip pencil that I bought in Russia EONS ago, to line and fill in my lips. Then used my MAC 219 brush (obSESSing over that bad boy as a lip brush right now) to brush on some Russian Red. I then took a maroon lip pencil that I grabbed from a shimmering glass bowl in Forever 21 years back to add some definition to the outer corners of said lips. Last but not least I used my trusty 219 once again, to LiGhTlY add some Dark Side to the outer corners. *WARNING* Dark Side is sooooo pigmented and a dab will really do it (insert promises here on that!). Viola! Your perfect winter lip =). Now keep in mind that you can do this same technique but add YOUR perfect colors in there. Are you more of a blood red gal? Do you gravitate toward a more orangey red? The sky is the limit!!! Send in your pretty pout to dollcosmetics@gmail.com and show me how YOU get through the winter blues =).

Red smudge ;), MAC 219, Dark Side, Russian Red, Forever 21 lip pencil in Berry

*extra tip* looooooooove that gorgeous lip and want to take your face to the next level? Pair it with bold brows and you will be the talk of Tinsel Town muuuuaaaahhhh!!!

Cowardly Lion

Cowardly Lion

Here’s the third character in our Wizard Of Oz series. This was by far the most detailed and super fun! The cowardly lion was always my favorite. He was hiLARious!!!! The song he sings is by far one of my family’s favorites. Enjoy and Happy Halloween!!!

Wizard Of Oz the Scarecrow

Wizard Of Oz the Scarecrow

I am SO excited to do the Wizard Of Oz this year for Halloween. It is just so perfect that I have two boys, a hubby, then ME ; D lol. I am wanting to do all of the looks this year so here is the second in my series. The Scarecrow. I am super pleased with this look (seeing as I had from start to clean up 45 min to be at my son’s school!). Had I had more time, I would have for SURE done some highlighting with white or cream around the dark lines that I made. I also think that I would have cut smaller squares of burlap and overlapped them to make a diamond shaped pattern on my cheeks. Other than that, I loved it =). Doing the Cowardly Lion as we speak….I mean, the kiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnng Ha!
Wizard Of Oz Tin Man

Wizard Of Oz Tin Man

I aDORE the wizard Of Oz! I am an old soul to begin with so I love the charm and memory that old movies and old movie stars evoke. I watched every musical I could growing up and had a fascination with the stories that were “behind the scenes”. My dad and his brothers are all movie buffs and I would LOVE sitting and listening to them tell stories about the interesting, little known facts about all the movie stars that I dreamed of being and the movies I would have died to be in. I used to get up and tap with Gene, twirl with Ginger, slink around with Cyd and bop with Ann Miller. I just loved them all! I crave the fashions from back then, I want singing and dancing in movies to come back to poularity (no I don’t mean like High School Musical or remakes of classics). I mean all kids are put in dance and voice lessons if they want to get into the business =D. I digress….were any of you TOTALLY and completely freaked out by Margaret Hamilton as the wicked witch????? I was TERRIFIED of her and would hide behind the t.v. every time she came on. LOL even now when me and the boys watch it I get the chills when she came on {shudder}. Not withstanding the Springer family has decided to be all things Oz this year for Halloween and I could NOT be more excited!!!!!!! I can just see it in my mind and I really hope I haven’t built it up too much in my mind. I am literally giddy about being Dorothy. My sweet mama was her years ago and made the costume I get to wear. That alone makes my heart melt a little =). I’ve ordered the boys costumes online this year instead of piecing them together. Older boy will be the tin man and the younger wants to be the scarecrow. That leaves the cowardly lion for the hubs (he’s sooooo enthused about the idea…insert all my sarcasm there!). But he will do it cuz he loves me and doesn’t want to break my heart =D. I am trying to get his costume done but I can’t find ANYthing!!!! He said he would totally wear the lion head piece that Luna Lovegood wore in Harry Potter but how can I find THAT???? I’ve Googled it but I’m not spending that kind of money = /. I would like to do all of the characters form the Wizard Of Oz so here is the first. The Tin Man!!!! I do two separate chins so pick your fave (you could say this tutorial comes with a double chin ha!). I know bad joke, but enjoy and Happy Halloween!!!
