This is one of the MOST requested looks. An everyday, get me out the door makeup look. Not much to it which is so great for an everyday wearable look. If you live in a super humid climate, think about swapping out the BB cream for something less dewey. other than that, this is good for everybody! Head over to my IG for the full video.
Welcome to my ultimate Disney Beauty Survival Guide (click here for the video). Here are my most favorite products that I have found to keep me going ALL day long at the most magical place on Earth. These are products that are tried and TRUE, no messing around with only “kind of works” stuff. These are legit, the real deal, pinky promise =). Okay, let’s get started! First and foremost, we go to Disneyland a lot. Like, a lot for living so far away.
I used to perform there, went every year multiple times with my parents, dates in college, bridal parties and showers there, had my first date with my hubby there, honeymoon, take the kids when they are babies, ten year anniversary (pictured above)….we LOVE Disneyland!!!! I can’t wait to now share all of these secrets that I have been using for YEARS at the park. And trust me, there has been trial and error.
Let’s start with the fact that I don’t like to wash my hair when we go to Diz. You heard me right (and don’t stress, we aren’t usually there more than three days). It turns into an absolute frizz ball mess in California and mama aint got time for that!
SO what I use is a mixture of cornstarch and unsweetened cocoa powder. This is a natural option instead of normal dry shampoos found in the store (my scalp reacts badly to chemicals). I either use a designated toothbrush to brush it into the roots or my fingers. The reason for the unsweetened cocoa powder is so that it better matches my hair color. If you are blonde, you can skip that ingredient and you can also use cinnamon if you have red hair. I use these containers to put my dry shampoo and my powder in.
I always get a ton of questions about what tools I use to curl my hair. These are the only two I use because I’m not very good at hair and it’s all I know LOL!
This iron I used for the curls you see below in front of the Mickey pumpkin.
This one was used for the Disney Bound Jessie picture.
Let’s jump into makeup shall we? Primers make a HUGE difference and you can go here to read all about my favorites for every single skin type. For Disneyland, I use my trusted Emma or the Smashbox. Emma is for sure the least expensive option and if you use the code CLASSY you can get 20% off!!! You’re welcome =). Now these primers are going to ensure your foundation looks amazing and stays PUT!!!
For foundation there is a holy grail of an option that I’m going to give you but beware, it’s a bit pricey. But I also have a way around that TOO!!! Esteé Lauder Double Wear Foundation is the ultimate WILL not move foundation…but is for more oily skin. So if you wear it and you are dry, or maybe just combo, it’s going to be very drying on your skin! I use this when I am at Disneyland and it looks AMAZING and lasts ALL day long!!!!! Like I said, it’s pricey so here’s a tip. If you want to take it for a test run, or you know you’ll only need it for this trip, go to the counter, have them match you and then get a sample. It will last you ten days and you can see how much you love it and if you’re willing to invest!
When you are staying up way late and waking up super early to get the most out of the parks your eyes can start to look a bit bloodshot. These Lumify drops are MAGICAL!!! Just one to two drops in each eye and they are bright white and ready to take pics all around the Magic Kingdom.
There are a few staples with me when it comes to Disneyland. Lashes, red lips and rosy cheeks. I just love that combo so much!!! My lashes I get from Eyelashes Unlimited. They have SO many options and I scored another discount code for you to save 20%!!! Just use CLASSY at checkout to save some money. As far as the glue I use on the regular, it’s DUO which you can also get there but when I am at Disneyland or somewhere a bit more humid I use a waterproof glue from House of Lashes. It’s awesome and great for touch ups with the brush. My lips I ONLY use Maybelline’s 24 hour Color Stay. My fave is to use a slightly deeper red on the outer edges then a cherry red in the middle. This formula stays on ALL day even with eating all the yummy Disney treats and you can even over line those lippies without fear of it seeping up into any wrinkles….cuz I have them…don’t do duck faces girls…it will save lives. Did I also mention it’s a FRACTION of the cost of some other stay on liquid lipsticks out there??? Cuuuuuz it is!!! ELF has some pretty awesome bright blushes in their quad that they sell. This is the one I am wearing in the video and in most of these pictures.
Now, I’m not a huge eyeliner fan…mostly because of user error in the application process LOL. I’m terrible at it! BUT I know that it’s important to some and this eyeliner is so creamy, so pigmented and doesn’t MOVE!
You guys asked and I’m ANSWERING!!!!! Cleaner products to take off my makeup and how I hydrate my skin. In the video I explain what I have switched to, and a few products I’m still sticking with. I feel when switching over to clean living, just do your best and let your liver take care of the rest. It can be so overwhelming to do everything all at once so do what you can and add something new when you can. A few things I mention and where to find more info:
As of late this has been my most requested tutorial! Maybe it’s not exactly a Makeup Monday but since I’m making it up as I go, Makeup Monday it is LOL! I’m almost embarrassed to put this out there because you just might laugh. You may just see….oh yeah, when she says she doesn’t know how to do hair, she wasn’t kidding. Hairstylists avert thine eyes!!!! To see the whole video, click here. The type of curling iron I used can be found by clicking here. It’s seriously SO simple!!! Now lets get personal. I have been thinging about the month of November a lot. The gratitide I want to feel everday. To be intentional with my “Thankful Thoughts”. Want to join me? This week I’m focusing on the gratitude I feel for my body. I am going to start working out again at least three times a week (need to start somewhere and October killed me). I want to fuel my body with awesome unprocessed foods and make sure I am sticking to as little toxins as I can with what I put ON my body (think shampoos, conditioners, deo, hand soap etc.). If you want to do the same, check out Just Ingredients on Instagram and you’ll see where my head is at with this goal. Small changes can lead to BIG things!!!! Depression? Anxiety? ADHD? Infertility? My mind is BLOWN by how much we are affected by food and personal care products!!! Who’s with me? Thankful Thoughts in November!!! Something new and inspiring each week. Comment below if you’re down!!!
Stop stop STOP!!!!!! We interrupt this Toy Story week to bring you VERY important and pertinent info to those about to embark on their Halloween makeup journey!!!!!!! It can make or break your look to add this one technique I used on every single one of these characters. Do you know what they all have in common? See if you can guess before I tell you. I’ll reveal in stories AND take you right to a video I made JUST for this!!!!! It will walk you through it step by step till you’re a pro! Now what do they aaaallllll have in common? 🤔🤔🤔 .
Here are my tried and true products that I use for all different skin types. Today I am focusing on primer, foundation, under eye concealer and setting spray. Hope you enjoy! All of these items can be found on my amazon store or on the products official site.
Let’s talk about it. Primer is essentially just that, something to prime the face. To get it ready for the makeup you’ll be putting on top of it. Back in the day before primers became a huge thing, we primed with other mediums. Scott Barnes still sticks to using concealer to prime the face. Some people have gone to the extreme side of things and use Monistat even and swear by it!!! Whatever you use, there is a reason this tried and true method of priming the face is sticking around…IT WORKS!!!
A lot of primers are silicone based (not all) and they are amazing for keeping your foundation from soaking into your skin. All primers, no matter their base, act as a buffer to keep foundation and other products stay put! Nowadays there are primers for every pain point that you can think of. Have too much texture? Do you have fine lines and wrinkles? Do you have hyper pigmentation? Too much red? Need a glowy finish for that dry skin? Need to mattify that oily skin? Start with primer!!! On my IG account I asked you guys what your fav primers were and BOY did you deliver! I’m stoked to see of my favorites made your list and I’m excited to try new ones!
I wanted to give you a list of all my favorite primers that I use on clients and myself and tell you why. Hope you find this helpful and if you have any questions, just leave them in the comments xoxo.
First up! My favorite everyday, normal to oily skin primer hands down right now is the Emma Pore Refiner sold over at Cents Of Style. I say it’s my favorite right now because formulations are always changing. Products get better and new ones come out all the time. It’s always fun to find a new favorite.
I use this primer aaaalllll the time and because of it’s silky feel, clients always comment on it. It goes on silky but dries matte and is infused with natural ingredients (always a plus). I have noticed that this works best with my wrinkly forehead than most expensive brands. An AMAZING thing about this primer is it’s price point! It goes on sale quite a bit but with a base price of $29.95, you can’t go wrong. You can also use the code CLASSY to get 20% off right now by clicking here. You’re welcome ; ).
Next up is a bit more pricey coming in at $42 but is a GREAT primer if you are on the dry side of life. This is Prime Addiction Frankie Rose Cosmetics (also where I get my FAV foundation and under eye concealer). It moisturizes, without feeling too greasy and keeps everything going all day long. The ONLY thing, is that I feel the Emma one still works better on my forehead wrinkles. Less is more with this primer so it does last you a good long time!
If you are dry, want ALL natural and are willing to pay a touch over $50 (when all is said and done with tax and shipping) then you MUST try the Crunchi primer. Guys, this one has ROCKED my world!!!! It’s rocked the world of quite a few clients as well in this desert we live in called Utah lol. Especially for those that are wanting to clean up their beauty routine as far as chemicals, this is the first step. You won’t be disappointed!!!
Let’s keep going, we have a lot of ground to cover! Still keeping with the theme of somewhat dry skin, we turn to Becca. Becca, in my opinion, is a leader when it comes to glow and shine. I haven’t been let down yet by them in that department. This one goes beyond just dry skin. This is, not only do I want to be hydrated but I want to GLOW from the inside out!!! The Backlight Primer can be used all over the face, or in specific parts where you want to highlight. I have even used it to sheer out a very full coverage foundation. It’s amazing on bride’s and I love using it in every season. This one will set you back $39. If you sign up for their email letter you can get 20% off your first order and it’s free shipping on orders over $45. Score!
Let’s shift focus a bit to more oily clients. This one I tend to correct with foundation more than a primer but I choose the right primer non the less. I just don’t expect it to do all the work if that makes sense. I like to use the Porefessional Primer (about $31) from Benefit for more oily clients and then either use Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation (for super oil control) or at least a drop of the Double Wear to Frankie Rose foundation (if not as oily). Here’s a real life practice for ya. Here in Utah, I’m pretty dry and would NEVER wear Double Wear. When I go home to California and I’m hitting the rides at Disneyland all day long it’s a different story. I’ll use Double Wear and then set with Urban Decay’s De-slick setting spray. My makeup doesn’t MOVE!!!
If you aren’t super oily but need some oil control then another good option is the Smashbox Photo Finish oil-free primer. It runs about $36 but can depend on where you get it. I don’t reach for this one a ton but I have had many people say that they like it!
Now, what if you have redness? A little or a lot, I grab for my Makeup Forever Step 1 Primer ($37) in green, yes green. I feel it’s become a tip that has permeated everyones brains so maybe I don’t need to explain? Well, just to cover my bases ; )…..green on the color wheel is opposite red. Anything that is on the direct opposite side of the color wheel will compliment or in this case balance each other out. Got it? Man, we could open up a whole other can of worms about color theory =). I will say though that I don’t like using this if I am dealing with cream foundation. Now, when I am using this and there are some really heavy red spots I like to go in with the Sephora green concealer stick to help out a bit. That’s also good to use on blemishes!
Texture is always a hard thing to deal with. There are so many things that can cause texture on the face and so many different places it can be. I just recently started trying this La Roche-Posay primer and I’ve gotta say……WHAT?????? It smooths over texture like no ones business and has that added SPF for the sunny days about to come. I love that you can find this one in soooo many places. Amazon, Walgreens and Ulta. All for around $35.
My last recommendation is a tinted primer that can help you with products on your face and you need only a minimal amount of foundation (depending on how clear your skin is). Glō Minerals is a wonderful brand and this primer also has SPF 30 to protect your skin. This one is VERY much like the Emma Pore Refiner but it doesn’t fill in the pores like Emma does.
So those are my top picks and the ones that I actually USE! I am SO excited to check out all the ones (especially drug store ones) that everyone recommended on IG. I want to leave you with this final thought. The skin on your face is not all the same. If you are oily but want a little glow on the cheekbone, then use your normal oil control primer but then maybe use a tiny bit of the backlight primer there. If you find one work best for your forehead wrinkles (insert me pointing at mine lol) then use that there and maybe a different one for all over the rest. They’ll last that much longer if only used sparingly that way.
Below are the pics from My IG account and which primers I used on them:
You’ll be surprised that I did NOT use any green on this chica! I used the Emma Pore Refiner then all Maskcara IIID cream foundations. Isn’t she a babe?
This one was our all natural Crunchi super moisturizing primer. I also used a touch of the backlight primer on her cheekbones.
GUYS!!!!! I love this makeup look. I love it sooooo much that when I wear it, I may overuse it to the tune of a whole WEEK! Ha ha ha ha. Of course, washing it off at night and reapplying ;). It’s very easy to follow and these colors can be found in so many palettes out there. Don’t feel you have to buy this exact one, especially since over the years they discontinue things a lot in the makeup world. Think oranges, gold, deep brown and cranberry!
I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times but your makeup will look so much better on clean and clear skin. The three things I’ve been doing lately that have made a HUGE difference? Drinking at least 90 oz of water a day (if not more), using a natural cleanser that isn’t filled with toxins and chemicals AND using these bad boys every time I wash my face.
They are SO soft and yet they help me get every single stitch of makeup off! My skin feels so soft after getting all that dead skin off and my makeup looks that much more amazing!!! I randomly found mine at TJMaxx but I know that’s super hit and miss. So I searched and found this one for you on Amazon….you’re welcome ; D.
Here’s the smokey eye with nothing on the bottom. No liner, shadow or mascara.
Here it is with the liner, shadow and mascara on the bottom. The top three pictures is using Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick “Outlaw” and Mac’s Mineralized Skin Finish in “Soft & Gentle” dapped on the lower lip, just in the center.
Here’s the ame smokey brown eye with Rimmel’s “Eastend Snob” lipliner, MAC lipstick in “Please Me” and a dap of MAC Prolongwear gloss in “Patience Please” on the center of the lower lip.
Hope you guys enjoyed it and I’ll talk to you soon! If you want to chat live, follow me on Periscope under @classycozmetics or follow me on IG, also under @classycozmetics.
