Who loves to better themselves? Raise of hands? Good! I’m glad I’m
not alone =). Well last year I went to a WoNdErFuL conference where I
was able to hear uplifting messages, sing with thousands of women and
provide service and aid by completing service kits for people around the
world. It was such a great experience and I came home feeling motivated
and ready to promote change within myself and my family. I am SO
excited to attend again this year with. my. MAMMA!!!!!! I will be
picking her up from the airport momentarily with a cute hand made sign
that says…you guessed it MAMMA!!!!! Can’t wait to see her and show her
all around.
On a side note, Your Home Based Mom’s
Leigh Ann Wilkes will be in town and has asked me to do her makeup for a
fun 1950’s photo shoot. Since I will still be at the conference, she
asked if I wouldn’t mind doing it in one of the building during a break
LOL. SO excited to do that and to see the gorgeous pics that will be
done by Tara B.
Check them both out and if you are going to the very same conference
make sure to come and say hi! I would love to meet you and give you a
big hug =).
I feel so blessed in this life to have such wonderful friends {insert big red
heart}. They inspire me, lift me up when I am sad and encourage me when
I need to get back up and try again. We laugh together, cry together
and make silly and lasting memories. Today I feel like bragging about
one particular friend that holds such a special place in my heart.
Though we are far apart and it has been years since our adventurous days
in Southern California we will always be sisters, we will always be Miami and
Ginger (yes, those were our fake club names when we would go dancing
Ha!). I had just moved to Huntington Beach and was desperate to just jump
in and do everything. I had a great roommate that introduced me to her
friend Jessica. I think my first words were,”Do you do your makeup like
that everyday?” I was STUNNED that her blending was so perfect.
Her color choices so on point and she’s just drop dead gorgeous on top
of everything. We became fast friends and did everything together. We
danced the night away at our favorite hot spots, went to Disneyland like
it was going out of style, hit the beach for countless sunny hours
laughing and talking about our futures and the latest guy that walked
by. We shopped till we dropped, sang our hearts out to our favorite
songs, lounged on house boats at Lake Mead for UNforgettable vacations,
had crushes on impossible boys, got our hearts broken, sang praises to
our Lord and Savior, went on missions for our churches, spent holidays
together….you get the idea ; ).
I love my Shmesh and I am also SO
proud of who she is and the woman that she has become. She is a
celebrity makeup artist with a clientele to KILL for {ever heard of Brad
Pitt? George Clooney? Rachel Hunter? Jane Lynch? Mathew Morrison? Miss
Hawaii? THE ENTIRE CAST OF LOST???}. Yeah, she’s amazing!!! You can’t
keep her away from Fashion Week whether it be in L.A. or N.Y. and she
has her hands/ makeup brushes in just about every part of the fashion
and television industry. Just recently she was seen in Hawaii Five-0. Do you
watch it? Here is a clip of her being the ever so sassy “I don’t want to be here girl” which is HIlarious since she is the sweetest most down to Earth girl EVER!!! She did such a great job!

You know when things are just meant to be? Like when jelly met peanut butter, lobster met butter, mayo met everything {sorry Russia moment}…notice all things with me are about food LOL. Well that is how I felt when I was stopping by a friend’s house, minding my own business when WHAM, out of the blue I met this darling chica that had just moved in and was…dah dah daaaaahhhhh a PhOtOgRaPhEr!!!!! Never mind the fact that she was on her way to the river with her darling kids to “set free” their fish ; ). I was so stinkin excited to have a fellow artist on the block…not to mention the fact that I am terrible with picture taking and would love to drain every ounce of knowledge she has on the subject!!! Luckily she had volunteered to share her gift at a local gathering. I came, pen and paper in hand, front row, eagerly waiting and BOY did I learn so much!!! There are things that she probably thought were common knowledge but I was sitting there feverishly writing =). Ladies, I am SO pleased to announce that JC Photography is joining the ranks as the newest Classy sponsor!!!! Not only that but she has also agreed to share tips and tricks with us every now and then here on the blog! Are you excited??? I AM!!!!! Do you want to meet her? This, my friends is Janelle in the shell of a nut:
My name is Jenelle Wanlass. I am married
and have
a perfect number of children, four. Two girls and two boys. I have
always loved
taking pictures and documenting our life, but it wasn’t until 2004 that I
really
discovered that my passion was in photography and I’m hooked! There is
an incredible joy I feel when I get
that one great shot. Just knowing that you will have
beautiful photos of you and your family forever is so satisfying. I love
capturing emotion and telling a story with one photo, or 40 of them! Not
a day
goes by when I don’t see something I need a camera for or wish I had a
camera
in my hands. I live life with the goal of preserving memories, not just
making them. I believe photography should show things as they truly are,
which
is why I can appreciate a photo of a crying baby, or a mischievous kid.
Children
are only little once but the photos I take, will last a life time. My
husband and I grew up in San Jose, California but moved to Utah to start
our family. As a “California Girl” I miss the warm weather and of
course the beach. However, I have realized
that I love living in Utah. Being a wife
and a mother is the most important thing to me than any other title, but
I have
to say, being a photographer as well makes everything in my life just
about
perfect!
Isn’t she dArLiNg?!?!? Yeah, she is =). Well, not only is she darling and amazingly talented but she is also generous. Are you guys ready for this??? Here’s my model pose…what do you think dawling? {muah} So this is the “do” I mostly sport. This was me after a job this morning. My hair needs to be dry and not done at ALL. It can be curled I guess but since I rarely take the time it isn’t a must. I then flip my head over, gather all my hair in a ponytail holder, flip back and make the highest messiest bun ever. I get SO many people that ask me if it’s all my hair. I’m so confused by that since I don’t feel it’s really that big but I guess it is {insert shrug}. What do you sport when you just want to get outta the house and want to look somewhat presentable? Send some pics too!
p.s. Don’t you love me in my boys lovely’ bathroom? If you could see any more of the sink you would see the remnants of sparkly toothpaste. Couldn’t edit out those streaks on the mirror though…even if I could, that’s just life with kids right? =)
Here is another hair tutorial. Are you NeRvOuS?!? {I am} This was inspired by Adele with all of her BIGNESS in hair. I LOVE it!!! Now, most of you know that I am NOT good with hair but I figure that if I do it in front of a “live audience” it will kick my butt into getting better right??? RIGHT!!!! It doesn’t turn out perfectly but I sure tried and will keep on trying till I perfect it =). Hope you enjoy and that you send me pictures of YOU doing the “twist”.
I am in LOVE with Shabby Apple. Their apparel is so current and fresh. I, myself am a TOTAL skirt girl!!!! I am so excited to say that right now Shabby is offering FREE shipping when you enter SPRINGSKIRT at check out. So go check em out and getcha some!!!!! ; )
There were SO many lovely ladies of the red carpet this year for the Grammy’s. Even though the world was still reeling form the shock of Whitney, as they say in Hollywood “the Show Must Go On!” And go ON it did!!! Here were a few of my favorite looks. What were yours? I think with all of your requests for Adele and seeing her on the red carpet I have finally chosen a look of hers that I will do here shortly. Till then enjoy these lovlies and their gowns and of COURSE their makeup! =) All photos thanks to TMZ.com.
Love Taylor Swift’s gold hues
Beautiful and classic black
Can I be tan year round too? Love that bright lip!
Oh Adele, we kind of adore you!
Rarely disappointed by Carrie, not starting now.
LOVE that purple and her voice is to DIE for!!!
No idea why Kate was at the Grammy’s but I ALL kinds of okay with it =).
Love her makeup but could do without my Grandmother’s dress on her…just sayin.
I was working an event out in SLC remembering the 2002 Winter Olympic Games this weekend and wasn’t able to get our winner announced for the book! Here is our winner:
Sarah@Neoteric.Traditional said… I think Jackie’s tips are great for all women suffering from
illness, but especially those with children (or grandchildren). My
grandmother kept a comb, a powder compact and lipstick on her bedside
table and wore a nice bed jacket. It made it seem more like a visit with
grandma than a visit with some one ill – for both of us I think.
I’m
like you, I sort of know some of the things in make up aren’t great,
but I don’t know what they are or how to find alternatives that work
well.
Congrats Sarah! Thank you for your comment and please send your shipping information to my email. Dollcosmetics@gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you =).
