the Girl On Fire

the Girl On Fire

This is NOT the makeup that Katniss wore
on the chariot rather makeup inspired by the whole event. The jet black
cape, the fire blazing behind them, warm colors. It really was such a good movie and
this was what I imagined in my head as the makeup that would tell the
story of the outfit. It is SO much fun to do bold looks and smokey eyes. I had forgotten how much I loved them =D. What else would you like to see from the Hunger Games movie?
My Shmesh

My Shmesh

I feel so blessed in this life to have such wonderful friends {insert big red
heart}. They inspire me, lift me up when I am sad and encourage me when
I need to get back up and try again. We laugh together, cry together
and make silly and lasting memories. Today I feel like bragging about
one particular friend that holds such a special place in my heart.
Though we are far apart and it has been years since our adventurous days
in Southern California we will always be sisters, we will always be Miami and
Ginger (yes, those were our fake club names when we would go dancing
Ha!). I had just moved to Huntington Beach and was desperate to just jump
in and do everything. I had a great roommate that introduced me to her
friend Jessica. I think my first words were,”Do you do your makeup like
that everyday?” I was STUNNED that her blending was so perfect.
Her color choices so on point and she’s just drop dead gorgeous on top
of everything. We became fast friends and did everything together. We
danced the night away at our favorite hot spots, went to Disneyland like
it was going out of style, hit the beach for countless sunny hours
laughing and talking about our futures and the latest guy that walked
by. We shopped till we dropped, sang our hearts out to our favorite
songs, lounged on house boats at Lake Mead for UNforgettable vacations,
had crushes on impossible boys, got our hearts broken, sang praises to
our Lord and Savior, went on missions for our churches, spent holidays
together….you get the idea ; ).
I love my Shmesh and I am also SO
proud of who she is and the woman that she has become. She is a
celebrity makeup artist with a clientele to KILL for {ever heard of Brad
Pitt? George Clooney? Rachel Hunter? Jane Lynch? Mathew Morrison? Miss
Hawaii? THE ENTIRE CAST OF LOST???}. Yeah, she’s amazing!!! You can’t
keep her away from Fashion Week whether it be in L.A. or N.Y. and she
has her hands/ makeup brushes in just about every part of the fashion
and television industry. Just recently she was seen in Hawaii Five-0. Do you
watch it? Here is a clip of her being the ever so sassy “I don’t want to be here girl” which is HIlarious since she is the sweetest most down to Earth girl EVER!!! She did such a great job!

Jess has just recently entered the NYX Cosmetics Face award Competition. You can see her video below and I would LOVE for all of you to support her by liking the video {click here to see it at YouTube & like}. Pretty please {with a little bit of sugar on top} just click “like” and if you feel so moved, leave her a comment telling you that Classy sent you.

Love you Jess! May all of your dreams come true and more. I hope one day to work with you, go to IMATS with you and giggle the day away! Do you have a bestie that even though you are far apart you will always be there for each other? Leave me a comment! Tell me about them!

My Fav Sigma Brushes

My Fav Sigma Brushes

Sigma
has some of the most affordable brushes and I love the quality. I use
them in countless videos and have had SO many people ask me about them
and which ones are my favorite. I figured that I can tell all of you in
one mass post =).
I would have to say first and foremost the most used brush I have is the Sigma E40.
It is comparable to the #224 from MAC and SO much cheaper! The only
thing I have noticed with the E40 that is different is that when I clean
it and wipe it on my cleaning cloth the color bleeds a touch. NOT
enough to keep me from buying FOUR MORE!!! ; )
MAC #224: $30.00
Sigma E40: $11.00
Next, the brush that every girl should have at least 5 of? The Sigma E25
which is comparable to the #217 from MAC. I only have the trial size of
this brush. It is usually the gift that comes when you spend $30 or
more dollars at Sigma aaaand since I always do I have quite a few of
these bad boys. Get ready for THIS price comparison!
MAC 217: $22.50
SIGMA E25: (full size) $9.00!!!
I
happen to ADORE this next brush!!! It is SO soft and deposits powder on
your skin like a massage. I am ALWAYS getting remarks from clients when
I use this brush on them. They say things like,”I could just fall
asleep right now!” {insert giggle} I feel so sneaky using my secret
weapon on everyone. I can’t wait to get another one!!! It is the Sigma F20, behold it in all of it’s glory. I should have put my hand in there or something to show how truly large and in charge it is!
MAC #134: $52.00
Sigma F20: $22.00

I
have been SO impressed with the Sigma line and the quality of their
brushes. They are double clamped on the handles, just like MAC’s to
ensure the strength of the bond of the bristles and the fennel. The
metallic piece is also seamless which is a huge indicator of quality.
Some of their brushes are double cut and some single cut just like MAC. I
say give them a try and see what you think. During this month the free
gift you get when you spend $30 is an awesome eyeliner brush. I just
ordered two foundation brushes and will be getting that free gift. Can’t
WAIT!!!!! Have you tried Sigma? What do you think? Would you like to
write a review on YOUR fav brushes? Send me your thoughts to
dollcosmetics@gmail.com or leave a comment. Have a happy day and be sure to look for my upcoming tutorial…the Girl On Fire!!!

Effie Trinket

Effie Trinket

May the odds be ever in your favor ; )
Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) was SO
fun to watch in the Hunger Games. Have you seen it? Wasn’t it great? I
know there were things they could have done better or parts I would have
liked to see but on the whole SO great!!! I was so excited to do some of Effie’s looks, a “girl on fire” look and have just some crazy capital fun!
What was your favorite look? I want to see YOU do some capital looks!!! Send em in and we can post them up =). Can’t wait to see!!!
How To Choose the Right Concealer

How To Choose the Right Concealer

Right from {theGlow.com} comes Dr. Jessica Wu’s strategies on how to choose the right concealer. Try not to “conceal” your excitement as you read on HA! ; )

My patients often ask me which concealer they should be using. The answer is, It depends on your skin type, budget, and what you’re trying to hide. Whether the problem is dark under-eye circles, melasma, or sun spots, there’s a concealer that will do the trick. Here are some of my faves:
If your under-eye skin is thin and the circles aren’t too dark, look for a liquid concealer with light-diffusing particles. A liquid formula is less likely to crease and flake, and the reflecting particles (usually minerals like mica) help brighten the area. Try Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Éclat ($40 at department stores) or Maybelline’s new Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer (about $8 at drugstores). Because the coverage these products offer is sheer to light, you may need to build it up in layers to get the amount of coverage you need.
If your under-eye circles are very dark or if you want to hide red or brown spots, use a cream concealer. Because cream fomulas are thicker than liquids, apply the concealer in thin layers to help minimize creasing. If you have dry skin, use moisturizer first. Try Fresh Umbrian Clay Absolute Concealer, a creamy formula with hydrating algae extract ($22 at fresh.com). I also like Revlon Age Defying Moisturizing Concealer, which contains glycerin and hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin. As an added bonus, it contains zinc oxide for SPF 25 protection to help prevent further darkening (about $10 at drugstores).
If you need heavy-duty coverage (tattoos, birthmarks, serious sun damage), look for a highly pigmented concealer. I use Clé de Peau — it’s pricey, but it’s intensely pigmented and it stays put. The stick lasts me almost a year ($70 at barneys.com). A makeup artist friend of mine swears by Amazing Concealer by Amazing Cosmetics. It’s also highly pigmented and is super-emollient and waterproof, so she uses it on her clients for photo shoots ($28 to $42 at amazingcosmetics.com). To hide tattoos, try a heavy-duty, long-wearing concealer like Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, which is budge-proof and waterproof ($25 at Sephora).

Arsenic and Old Lace

Arsenic and Old Lace

Hey there whipper snappers!!!! LOL So I am doing the makeup for a production in Salt Lake called Arsenic and Old Lace. It’s a comedy about these little old ladies that lure old men into their B&B and end up killing them. I know it doesn’t SOUND like a comedy but it’s actually quite hilarious =D! This is a great look to do for Halloween as well don’t you think? Would you like to see a tutorial on this? It’s not too terribly time consuming but is a little creepy to forget you have the makeup on then look in the mirror….EEK!!!!!! ; D
JC Photography & A Giveaway! {CLOSED}

JC Photography & A Giveaway! {CLOSED}

You know when things are just meant to be? Like when jelly met peanut butter, lobster met butter, mayo met everything {sorry Russia moment}…notice all things with me are about food LOL. Well that is how I felt when I was stopping by a friend’s house, minding my own business when WHAM, out of the blue I met this darling chica that had just moved in and was…dah dah daaaaahhhhh a PhOtOgRaPhEr!!!!! Never mind the fact that she was on her way to the river with her darling kids to “set free” their fish ; ). I was so stinkin excited to have a fellow artist on the block…not to mention the fact that I am terrible with picture taking and would love to drain every ounce of knowledge she has on the subject!!! Luckily she had volunteered to share her gift at a local gathering. I came, pen and paper in hand, front row, eagerly waiting and BOY did I learn so much!!! There are things that she probably thought were common knowledge but I was sitting there feverishly writing =). Ladies, I am SO pleased to announce that JC Photography is joining the ranks as the newest Classy sponsor!!!! Not only that but she has also agreed to share tips and tricks with us every now and then here on the blog! Are you excited??? I AM!!!!! Do you want to meet her? This, my friends is Janelle in the shell of a nut:

My name is Jenelle Wanlass. I am married
and have
a perfect number of children, four. Two girls and two boys. I have
always loved
taking pictures and documenting our life, but it wasn’t until 2004 that I
really
discovered that my passion was in photography and I’m hooked!  There is
an incredible joy I feel when I get
that one great shot.  Just knowing that you will have
beautiful photos of you and your family forever is so satisfying. I love
capturing emotion and telling a story with one photo, or 40 of them! Not
a day
goes by when I don’t see something I need a camera for or wish I had a
camera
in my hands. I live life with the goal of preserving memories, not just
making them. I believe photography should show things as they truly are,
which
is why I can appreciate a photo of a crying baby, or a mischievous kid.
Children
are only little once but the photos I take, will last a life time. My
husband and I grew up in San Jose, California but moved to Utah to start
our family.  As a “California Girl” I miss the warm weather and of
course the beach. However, I have realized
that I love living in Utah. Being a wife
and a mother is the most important thing to me than any other title, but
I have
to say, being a photographer as well makes everything in my life just
about
perfect!

Isn’t she dArLiNg?!?!? Yeah, she is =).  Well, not only is she darling and amazingly talented but she is also generous. Are you guys ready for this??? She is offering one lucky Classy reader that resides in the Utah County area (and some surrounding areas) the chance to work with her and walk away with some amazing pictures of you and your loved ones.
